Design Studio Duo

Mitchell and Claire Annear are a formidable creative pair. The husband-and-wife team are the force behind Seven Seas Creative – one of the more progressive and innovative design studios on the Mornington Peninsula.

Explains Mitchell, “I’m originally from the NSW Central Coast and my wife Claire grew up in Melbourne. We moved to the Mornington Peninsula about five years ago, shortly before my son was born. Having lived in lots of different places we were looking for a nice coastal location to raise a family - one with a community feel whilst being within easy reach of the buzz of the city."

Claire’s great grandma lived in Mornington, and she spent all of her school holidays here throughout her childhood. These memories stayed with her and formed her fondness for the area. So, when it came time to find a great place to settle down, Mornington was one of the first places they thought of.

“After spending a bit of time here we could both see why people fall in love with the area. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming, there are beautiful beaches and coastline, great shops, cafes and restaurants, and lots of wonderful outdoors activities to do as well. We purchased a house in Mornington and set up our Creative Studio in Main Street."

Mitchell’s design career began around 15 years ago. Studying graphic design, his career quickly progressed from Graphic Designer to the role of Art Director. “Over that time, I worked with international advertising agencies in Sydney and Melbourne focused on several major brands. Building my experience at award-winning agencies such as George Patterson, Y&R, The Monkeys (previously Three Drunk Monkeys), Blaze Advertising and Harkess-Ord really helped to cement my skills and knowledge in the world of branding from website design to videos and large-scale advertising campaigns.”

However, Mitchell always had a desire to create a smaller, boutique creative agency that works more closely with its clients to help them achieve their goals. A more personal approach, with a focus on bespoke design. Joining forces with partner Claire became the ideal solution. Claire herself is a passionate marketing professional, and having held roles in the Corporate, Government and Not-For-Profit health sectors she loves to create engaging content that inspires action. With a background in Marketing and Social Sciences, Claire has a flair for online, social media and emerging technologies, and their power to tell meaningful stories.

And so, with a collective experience in marketing and design of more than 35 years, Seven Seas Creative was founded in 2013 based on the simple desire to do things better.

Says Mitchell, “Our services include branding and identity, web development, digital marketing, social media, campaign strategy, video and graphic design. We help extraordinary businesses to attract the attention of their ideal clients and secure qualified enquiries. We do this creating a distinctive and recognisable identity for their business and showcasing their exceptional services and expertise in the best possible light through brand identity, website and graphic design services.”

“If I wasn’t an Art Director, I would have chosen to be an architect,” says Mitchell, “which gives me a special passion for building and landscape architecture. In the latter part of my ‘agency’ career, before working for myself, I mostly provided art direction for creative projects in the property development and engineering space. As a result, a lot of our clients at Seven Seas Creative are builders, developers, architects, landscapers, buyer’s agents and town planners - businesses that support the property industry."

Having worked in marketing for NFPs for many years, Claire gained lots of great experience and insight into the many facets of digital marketing.
